Citronella

Citronella is a plant native to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. A brief history of citronella in Indonesia dates back to the early 20th century when the plant began to be grown commercially in Java and Sumatra.

 At first, citronella was grown as an ornamental plant and was also used as a base for essential oils that have many benefits, such as natural insecticides, antioxidants, and antifungals. However, in the 1930s, the Dutch government began to promote the mass planting of citronella in Indonesia to fulfill the need for citronella oil used in the perfume and cosmetic industries. 

Since then, Indonesia has become one of the largest producers of citronella in the world. Areas famous for citronella production in Indonesia include East Java, Central Java, and West Sumatra. Citronella is also an important export commodity for Indonesia and has the potential to continue growing in the future.
