– Plants to be used for wood chips and wood pellets, cattle and goat feed, and honey production
– Planting will help conserve water resources, soil fertility, and prevent landslides
Jabung, Malang, Indonesia – May 14, 2024 – PT. Malang Agro Resources is partnering with the Forest Farmer Groups (Kelompok Tani Hutan) Argosari Village in Jabung District, Malang Regency, to plant 250,000 kaliandra plants. The plants, which have been grown for over three months, were planted on May 12, 2024.
The planting ceremony was attended by the Camat Jabung, Danramil, Kapolsek, and representatives from the cooperative, LSM, Perhutani, and religious organizations. PT. Malang Agro Resources provided the seedlings and will also purchase the kaliandra wood for use in wood chips and wood pellets. Kaliandra is known for its high calory woods.
In addition to its economic benefits, the planting of kaliandra plants will also help to conserve water resources, improve soil fertility, and prevent landslides. The leaves of the kaliandra plants can also be used as a nutritious feed for cattle and goats, and the flowers can be used for beekeeping. Kaliandra plants are a short-rotation energy crop that can be harvested for the first time after 18 months, and every 6 months thereafter. The plants can be productive for over 20 years.
“We are excited to partner with the Kelompok Tani Hutan Desa Argosari on this important project,” said Nyoman Suriawan, a representative of PT. Malang Agro Resources. “This project will not only benefit the local economy, but it will also help to protect the environment.”
The planting of kaliandra plants is part of a larger effort by PT. Malang Agro Resources to promote sustainable forestry practices in Indonesia. The company is committed to working with local communities to develop and implement projects that benefit both the environment and the people who live in it.
